Exhibition text
The exhibition, like many of Noro’s works, is multifaceted, with references to times, places, and events. During the preparations for the exhibition, he has been preoccupied with the idea of a voyeuristic alter ego hiding in thickets and bushes. The voyeur finds himself in a kind of scene with discarded objects, a setting shrouded in secrecy, where everyday life and chatter meet an illogical reality.
The anonymous observer watches from his hiding place as passersby meet and go about their activities. Many of the paintings seem to capture a dark nocturnal atmosphere, das Unheimliche (the uncanny), where the depicted figures remain undisturbed, continuing their mundane activities, unaware of the watcher behind the bush.
